New Theme, New Artwork

AFTER much deliberation about whether or not to upgrade to custom CSS, I decided that instead I would experiment with a new theme. Let me know what you think of Garland.

OF course, I failed to take a screenshot of my old Cutline theme before I got rid of it. It really was a very cool theme, and I had set it up well. I just needed to get my widgets into two columns, and to get rid of those damn serifs.

I was looking for paintings by Isabel Bishop to put into my new theme, and originally had placed the following painting in the space at the upper left:

I thought it was a great painting, but Carrie strongly cautioned me against using it — probably because I write about churchy things sometimes. Of this painting, she said “It makes me nauseous.” (Cheers, Ms. Bishop!)

INSTEAD, Carrie suggested that I display Wolf Girl, by Kiki Smith:

SORRY, Carrie — I’m going to follow my instincts on this one.

You know what’s funny? I read all of my blogs through a feeder, so unless I click through (after the bump as they say), I rarely see what the site is supposed to be like. But I do like this one, although I have to agree with Carrie on Wolf Girl..

Thanks, Lia. I’m looking at my site right now through one of the computers at the downtown Oly library, and it looks totally different from the way it looked at home. I don’t know if it’s because the library computers are running IE6, and I use IE7 at home, or if it’s something else… but in my current obsessive state, I find this infuriating. My blog must look perfect!

Clearly, I need help…
